Jordan Sheets celebrated his 18th birthday Wednesday by shooting a round of golf he could live with.
Sheets fired an 83 in the second round of the AJGA Dalhousie Junior Championship, following his opening round of 87 and leaving him 26 strokes over par following two days at the tournament.
The Cape Girardeau resident missed the cut, as did the other three players from the immediate area.
Jackson's Tanner Werner, the state runner-up in Class 4 this past spring, led the local effort with a two-day total of 159, which was three strokes off the boys' cut. He shot 79 on Wednesday with birdies on Nos. 4 and 14 after recording no birdies Tuesday.
Cape Girardeau's Joe Wiggans, heading into this senior year at Notre Dame, finished out with a 95 on Wednesday to give him a total of 189.
In the girls division, Emily Matthews capped her junior career with a round of 93 and a two-day total of 186. The 2008 Notre Dame graduate will head to Missouri State this month.
Sheets, a senior-to-be at Central, will head to soccer practice today. He put together a 39 on the front side of the course, his final nine holes Wednesday. He had pars on seven of nine holes.
"If I had played like I did on the front nine, I might have made the cut," Sheets said. "My putting was a little shaky, but I made a lot of pars on the front."
