What was supposed to be the fourth season of play for Jackson's American Legion baseball team since it revived the program in 1997 has ended prematurely.
Jackson has had a problem fielding a full squad for much of the season and things eventually got so bad in that regard that District 14 chairman Homer Dickmann recently announced that the team has decided to forfeit the remainder of its games.
"They are still eligible to play the remainder of the season, but at this point, they have indicated they won't have enough players," said Dickmann, who also serves as the chairman of the board of directors for Missouri American Legion Baseball.
But on a more positive note for Jackson summer baseball, the town's Senior Babe Ruth team -- which uses the same age groups as American Legion -- is off to an 11-0 start.
