JACKSON'S BECKER SIGNS WITH MISSOURI SOUTHERN

JACKSON -- Jackson High senior Jill Becker played for the last two Lady Indian basketball teams that reached the Missouri Class 4A Final Four, including this year's squad that finished second in the state.

But even though Becker enjoys basketball, her real passion is running. And the Jackson cross country and track standout will get to extend her athletic career because she recently signed a letter of intent to compete in those sports at Missouri Southern State College in Joplin.

"I'm excited," she said. "Basketball was fun, but running is my favorite."

Becker has been a two-time state qualifier in cross country and she earned all-state honors in track as a sophomore when she compete for Jackson's 3,200-meter relay team that placed fourth in the state meet.

"She's been one of our main athletes the last few years," said Jackson track coach Bob Sink. "She's running well this year."

Becker said she plans to major in physical education and wants to eventually teach and coach.
