POTOSI -- Jackson High's Josh Adams picked up his first victory of the season in style Saturday, hurling a five-inning no-hitter at Pacific in the Potosi Tournament.
Adams also went 2-for-2 at the plate as Jackson concluded round-robin play with a 12-1 victory.
Jackson finished tournament play with a 1-2 mark and improved to 7-5 on the season.
Adams (1-3) struck out four batters and walked one.
Jackson broke open a 4-1 game in the fifth inning, scoring eight runs on just two hits. Pacific pitchers walked five batters in the inning, which were compounded by an error and a bases-loaded triple by Justin Gladish, who finished with two hits. Adams added an RBI double in the inning.
"They walked several in the fifth and we had some big hits," said Jackson coach Sam Sides. "Josh pitched well and we made the routine plays."
The Indians finished with six hits.
Jackson will visit Kelly Monday.
Notre Dame wins tourney
POTOSI -- Notre Dame captured first place in the four-team Potosi round-robin tournament by beating the host squad 4-1 Saturday.
The Bulldogs went 2-1 in the tourney and are now 9-2 on the season.
Ryan LeGrand pitched all seven innings Saturday, allowing a first-inning run and then shutting Potosi down. LeGrand gave up four hits and one walk while fanning five.
"After first inning, Ryan just handled them," said Notre Dame coach Gregg Muench. "He did a fantastic job."
Notre Dame had eight hits. Freshman Tommy Wencewicz had two hits in his first varsity start while Danny Wittenborn had two hits and scored twice.
Late Friday night, the Bulldogs lost to Pacific 5-4 after they had beaten Jackson 10-2 earlier. Chris Canfield was the tough-luck loser against Pacific, allowing just two earned runs and six hits while fanning 12 and walking two.
"Chris has been a tough-luck pitcher so far this year," Muench said. "But he threw the ball well. We made three errors that gave them several runs."
Freshman Josh Eftink had two of Notre Dame's eight hits against Pacific.
"It was a good tournament for us," said Muench. "Even though we gave up some runs on errors Friday night, we came back and battled back."
The Bulldogs will host Shawnee, Ill., Monday as they will play every day this week.
"It's going to be a big week for us, but we're looking forward to it," Muench said.
