ST. LOUIS -- The Jackson High wrestling squad took second at the eight-team Fox Tournament with eight wrestlers earning top four finishes.

Host Fox won with 210 points. Jackson had 119.5, Sikeston finished 4th with 110 and Cape Central placed 8th with 37.

"I was really proud of the effort of our wrestlers," said Jackson coach Steve Wachter. "Fox pretty much dominated the tournament, but with some of our wrestlers behind because of the football season and we don't have any seniors, I thought we did well."

At 103 pounds, Lance Schlick took second; as did Joe Wiseman (125). Scott Mangels (119), Jason Goben (135), Travis Turner (140) and Kyle Glass (171) each finished third. Eric Rhodes (112) and Corey Jaco (145) both placed 4th.

For Central, Bobby Lutrell took second at 140 pounds and Ben Keefe placed third at 125.

At the North County JV Tournament, Jackson had nine wrestlers finish in the top two.

Kyle Watson (4-0), Michael Schemel (3-0), Kyle Heck (3-0), Paul Findley (3-0), Craig Bohnsack (3-0) and Neal Collier each placed first in the tourney with a perfect record. Todd Wessell also took first with a 2-1 mark. Eric Graham (2-1) and Dustin Baker (3-1) both placed second.

New Madris win Riverbend Classic

NEW MADRID -- New Madrid dethroned Twin Rivers' girls as champions of the Riverbend Classic Saturday with a 73-56 victory in the final game of the round robin tournament.

New Madrid, which received a game-high 21 points from Tawanda Daniel, finished the tournament at 3-0. Summers Moore added 15 points for the Lady Eagles. Twin Rivers finished the tournament at 2-1.

Charleston placed third with a 56-45 victory over Senath. Talisha Haynes led the Lady Bluejays with 17 points. Randi Moore tallied 19 for Senath.

Boys

Scott City wins own tournament

SCOTT CITY -- Scott City improved its record to 3-0 by beating St. Vincent to win its round-robin tournament Saturday 54-44.

The Rams trailed St. Vincent (2-2) 24-21 at the half before coming back.

Chris Sisk led Scott City with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Dustin Cauble had 17 points and nine boards. For St. Vincent, Jacen Bierk and Jason Cissell both had 13 points.

East Prairie took third by beating Hayti 75-49.

Dyrek Merriweather led all scorers with 16 for East Prairie.

The all-tournament first team included: Cauble and Mike Workman of Scott City, Bierk and Jonathan Wengert of St. Vincent and Brad Kenedy of East Prairie.

Second team included: Sisk and Howie Stubenrauch of Scott City, Brent DeWilde of St. Vincent, Merriweather of East Prairie and Manley of Hayti.

Charleston takes Riverbend crown

NEW MADRID -- Charleston's boys won the Riverbend Classic with a 54-41 win over Blytheville, Ark. Saturday.

Charleston (3-0), ranked number one in the area media poll in the large division, trailed after the first quarter before outscoring the Chickasaws in the final three.

Rashad Oliver led all scorers with 21 points. Jeremy Biles added 16 and Larico Coleman added 11. Brian Tanner led Blytheville with 15.

Central freshmen sweep

The Cape Central freshman basketball teams swept Kelly Saturday to extend their perfect records.

The `A' team went to 4-0 with a 72-47 win. The~~~~ `B' team won 65-31 to move to 2-0.

Nick Swoboda, Jason Roddy and Jamaal Tipler had 15, 14 and 12 points respectively for the `A' team. DeMarco Williams led Central with 20 points and Chip Elias had 14 for the `B' team.

Jackson, ND freshmen split

JACKSON -- Jackson and Notre Dame's boys split a pair of freshman games Thursday evening.

Jackson won the `A' game 69-54. Michael Wehner paced Notre Dame's A squad (0-2) with 18 points.

Notre Dame prevailed in the `B' game 50-40. Matthew Essner tallied 19 points as the Bulldog `B' team improved to 1-1.

Swimming

Central swimmers take 10th

ST. LOUIS -- The Cape Central High swim team took 10th at the 17-team Country Day Invitational meet Saturday, winning three medals in the all-relay format.

Lafayette won the meet and Parkway Central took second.

300 backstroke relay -- 3. (2:58:92) Ben Roeger, Dax Tobin, Marshall Marietta.

600 individual medley relay -- 5. (6:42:88) Curtis McCall, Marshall Marietta, Dax Tobin.

400 medley relay -- 6. (4:02:23) Marshall Marietta, Curtis McCall, Dax Tobin, Kurt Yount.

900 progression relay -- 10. (9:50:58) Kurt Yount, Matt Younghouse, Ben Roeger.

400 freestyle relay -- 12. (3:55:74) Jason Marietta, Ben Chisman, Ben Roeger, Matt Younghouse.
