NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Jackson's Senior Babe Ruth baseball team earned a trip to the state tournament Wednesday night by beating host New Madrid 7-2 in eight innings in the first game of a doubleheader.

The second game was still in progress as the Southeast Missourian went to press.

By virtue of Wednesday's win, Jackson clinched the Dexter Senior Babe Ruth League title with a 21-1 record. The squad is 25-2 overall.

Josh Hopkins pitched seven innings for the win and G.P. Glueck finished up.

Andrew Estes went 4-for-4 to lead Jackson's 11-hit attack. Glueck homered and had two hits while Ryan Bandermann also had two hits.

The state tourney will begin next Thursday in Marshall.
