FESTUS -- Notre Dame saw its season end while Jackson advanced as the District 1 Tournament for girls high school soccer teams got under way here Wednesday.

Fourth-seeded Notre Dame lost to fifth-seeded Poplar Bluff 3-2 while second-seeded Jackson trounced seventh-seeded Windsor 6-0.

In today's semifinals, top-seeded and undefeated Cape Girardeau Central will play Poplar Bluff at 4 p.m. while Jackson will take on host St. Pius at 7.

Jennifer Glueck scored both goals for Notre Dame (10-10-1), with Jill Edwards and Beth Essner assisting. But Poplar Bluff scored twice in the second half to wipe out a 2-1 deficit.

"It was a tough way to lose," said Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley. "But I told the girls they had a great second season. We didn't win a game last year in our first season."

Jackson (12-4-1) got two goals from Dana Eakins while Julie Wunderlich, Jennifer Jones, Emily Ruessler and Sarah Schlick all tallied once. Wunderlich had three assists; Hallie Roseman, Jessica Schultz and Emily Ruessler all added one.

Laura Beck earned the shutout in goal.

"It was a good game for us," said Jackson coach Bonnie Knowlan.

ORAN -- Host Oran and Ste. Genevieve Valle -- the top two seeds -- won semifinal games Wednesday to advance to Friday's 4:30 p.m. championship of the district tourney.

Top-seeded Oran improved to 17-1, but it wasn't easy as the Eagles slipped past No. 5 Advance 2-1. Second-seeded Valle ripped No. 3 Bell City 13-0 in a game stopped after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Michael Stevens was the winning pitcher for Oran. He allowed four hits while striking out six and walking three in the full seven innings.

Matt Welch suffered the loss as he went all six innings, giving up just three hits and one earned run while fanning four and walking six.

Oran scored both its runs in the bottom of the first inning on an error, a walk and a two-run double by Stevens.

Advance tallied in the fifth as Welch singled and later came around on a passed ball. The Hornets had a golden opportunity in the sixth as they loaded the bases with one out but failed to score.

Valle got three hits, including a home run, and six RBIs from Todd Viox. The Warriors pounded out 14 hits. Nick Fallert was the winning hurler.

Nate Wills suffered the loss for Bell City.
