Sixth-seeded Jackson upset third-seeded Farmington 6-2 in the first round of the Class 4, District 1 tournament at Fox High School on Monday.

Austin McDowell (4-4) pitched a complete game four-hitter. He allowed just one earned and struck out eight.

"We've been struggling lately getting in runs from third, but today we did a good job of putting the ball in play," Jackson coach Sam Sides said.

McDowell helped himself with a double and two RBIs. Jackson had five hits in the game, including a 2-for-4 performance from Jason Owen.

Farmington (9-12) made four errors behind losing pitcher Derek Wiles.

Jackson (11-11) will play second-seeded Fox (12-12) at 2 p.m. today in the semifinals. Top-seeded Central (17-9) will face fifth-seeded Seckman (12-12), who defeated Poplar Bluff 7-1 in the other quarterfinal game.

Class 1, District 2

Fifth-seeded Bernie (6-10) shut out No. 4 Advance 6-0 in a first-round game at the Class 1, District 2 tournament at Oran, Mo.

Advance (10-13) was held to just two hits by Bernie's Zack Dill, who picked up the win.

Dill and Josh Simpson each had two hits, including a double apiece.

Second-seeded Chaffee (12-10) hit three home runs and jumped all over No. 7 Delta 23-1 in five innings. Brandon Davis went 4-for-4 with a three-run home run and a double. Zac Horman was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a double and five RBIs. Brent Thomason added a solo home run.

Thomason (5-1) was the winning pitcher, throwing only three innings and striking out four. Robert Coomer, Cory Chapman and Ryan Goetz each had two hits for Chaffee. Delta (5-11) made eight errors and had just three hits.

Third-seeded Bell City (13-4) scored seven runs in the fourth inning and rolled to an 11-0 win over No. 6 Scott County Central (1-9). Ben Duncan and Darrell Bailey each hit home runs for Bell City. Ty Brown, Bailey, and Kenyon Wright each went 2-for-3. Jack Daniels was the winning pitcher, he allowed just two hits.

Oran will play Bernie at 2:30 p.m., and Chaffee will play Bell City at 4:30 in today's semifinals.

Class 2, District 2

Seventh-seeded Scott City (2-15) knocked off No. 2 Grandview 6-4 in the first round of the Class 2, District 2 tournament at Ste. Genevieve.

"They may think it's an upset by I don't," Scott City coach Mike Umfleet said. "Anybody, one through eight has a shot at it in our district."

Scott City trailed 4-2 after three innings, but scored single runs in each of the last four frames.

Daniel Braun hit a solo home run in the fourth to cut Grandview's lead to one and start the comeback. Mark Dannenmueller and Kyle Curry each had two hits for Scott City.

Scott City will play No. 3 Valle (12-9) at 7 p.m. today. Valle slipped past No. 6 Crystal City 2-1.

Also in first round action in the Class 2, District 2 tournament, No. 5 St. Vincent (11-13) advanced with a 6-2 win over No. 4 Charleston (8-8), and top-seeded Kelly stopped No. 8 Woodland 10-6.

Class 1, District 3

The first-round games of the Class 1, District 3 tournament at Leopold, Mo., were rained out. The contests will be played today: Oak Ridge will meet Zalma at 2 p.m. and Caledonia and Meadow Heights will follow at 4.
