The Jackson Indians baseball team defeated the Portageville Bulldogs 11-1 in five innings on Monday at Jackson Stadium. Jackson scored in every inning while totaling nine RBIs as a team, four from Jaiden Glency.
Also knocking in RBIs for the Indians was Peyton Kight with three, Garrison Brown and Caleb Nenninger scored one a piece. Aaron Dunlop scored the lone RBI for Portageville in the third inning with a groundout scoring Xayvion Bogan.
Jackson head coach Josh Roach said after his team's rough day against DeSmet over the weekend caused them to want to hit well today.
“On Saturday we struggled a little bit and they were a little frustrated that wasn't how we're used to playing and they came back with a little chip on her shoulder today,” Roach said. “They did a good job of working together as a team offensively, with sacrifice flies and moving runners over. I thought we hit the ball very well.”
Adrian Fox started on the mound for the Indians and threw a five-inning no-hitter with the only Bulldog reaching base on an error. Huston Partin was tagged with the loss for Portageville going two innings in relief and allowing two earned runs with four walks and a strikeout.
Roach said Fox did a great job today as he has all season.
“He [Fox] threw a ton of strikes, his curveball and slider looked good and he was locating almost everything,” Roach said. “Defensively behind him, we did our job, made the routine plays and he had some efficient innings and got through five.”
Jackson will host Christian Brothers College High School out of St. Louis on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. while Portageville finishes their regular season at Chaffee on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Roach said his team is ready to play CBC and it should be a fun one.
“It's gonna be a great time. John Paul [Sauer] is gonna be on the mound and it's gonna be a big game for him to kind of get tuned in for the district tournament next week,” Roach said. “We should have a huge crowd and it should be a heck of a game.”
