Jackson tennis team captures district title

The Jackson tennis team dropped just one individual match in posting two district victories, including a 6-0 win against Central, in the Class 2 District 1 final Monday in St. Louis.

The Indians also recorded a 5-1 victory against Mehlville in the semifinals, which were played at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.

Jenny Powell, Montana Adams, Katelyn Kuppart, Lucy Kunz, Laina Marble and Jackie McNally all posted singles victories against Central.

Jackson advanced to Saturday's sectional team competition against the District 2 winner.

The individual district tournament will be 9 a.m. Friday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.

Notre Dame's inaugural season came to a close with a 7-2 loss to Dexter in the district semifinals.

Anna Unterreiner had a hand in both of the Bulldogs' wins. She defeated Dexter's Jamie Mauel 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, then teamed with Caroline Burke to beat Dexter's Erica Morgan and Alison Jarrell 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

Notre Dame finished its inaugural season with a 6-8 record.
