The Jackson American Legion team played two down-to-the-wire games Saturday in a doubleheader at Calvert City, Ky., winning 12-11 before dropping an 8-6 decision.
In the opener, the RE/MAX Achievers (18-6) fell behind 9-1 before using a seven-run fifth inning to help rally back for the win. Tyler Profilet had a big blow in the inning with a bases-clearing double.
Brandon Gendron came in to close the game, and got a little help from Trey Busch, who threw out the potential game-tying run at the plate to end the game.
A.J. Seiler pitched five innings for the win.
Zach Brazer, Jason Owen, Profilet and Gendron had two hits apiece. Profilet had five RBIs, and Gendron had three.
In the finale, Brandon Stearns entered the game for Jackson with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, only to give up a game-winning three-run home run to Calvert City.
Gendron led the way for Jackson's offense with two hits and four RBIs.
Jason Meystedt, Brandon Cooper and Tony Longman had two hits apiece.
