The Jackson girls volleyball team edged Notre Dame 25-22, 25-23 in a match at Notre Dame on Thursday night. "I thought both teams played really, really well," Notre Dame coach Tara Stroup said. The Jackson girls volleyball team edged Notre Dame 25-22, 25-23 in a match at Notre Dame on Thursday night.

"I thought both teams played really, really well," Notre Dame coach Tara Stroup said. "It was dead-even all the way through the game. I think both teams are happy with the way they played."

Natalie Koeper led Jackson (16-5) with 26 digs. Shay Priester had seven kills, Amanda Peiffer had six kills and six blocks, and Lucy Hartmann had 10 digs.

For Notre Dame (8-7-3), Ashley Nenninger, Meridith Medlin and Allison Toole each had four kills. Medlin also had 10 assists. Emily Huber also had eight assists.

JV -- Jackson won 25-12, 25-19; Freshman -- Notre Dame won 26-24, 15-25, 15-13.

Central 25 25 Saxony Lutheran 12 20

Kristen Shirrell had seven assists and Ashton Gerlach added eight digs to lead Central (6-12-1) to a road victory.

Tiffany Haertling led Saxony Lutheran (0-14) with seven digs and seven assists. Kara Verseman, Nicole Petzoldt and Stacey Manche had four digs apiece.

JV -- Central won 25-6, 25-14.

Leopold 25 25 Oran 19 17

Leopold improved to 13-3 with a victory at home.

Cassi Jansen had six kills and Casey Bucher added five for Leopold. Cassie Seiler had 15 assists and Kayla Trankle added six digs.

JV -- Leopold won, 25-6, 25-10.

Bell City 25 25 Scott City 19 18

Jenny Lathum had 16 digs and six kills to lead Bell City to a win on the road.

Rachel Spears had 14 digs and 10 blocks for the Cubs (19-3-1), while Megan Slagley added nine digs.

Kacie Ritter led Scott City (10-6-1) with eight kills, and Lindsey Amick had 10 assists.

St. Pius 26 25 Perryville 24 8

Makenzie Schirmer had three kills for Perryville in a home loss.

JV -- Perryville won 25-15, 26-24.

Woodland 25 25 Richland 18 14

Lotte Cook had seven digs, five blocks and four aces in a home win.

Rheanna Greer had 19 assists, and Kyla Choate added 15 assists for Woodland (11-7).

JV -- Woodland won 25-21, 25-11.

Advance 25 25 Puxico 17 14

Angela Broshuis led Advance with eight kills in a home win.

Alicia Reeves added 10 assists for the Hornets (8-11-2).

JV -- Puxico won 22-25, 25-21, 25-19.

SOFTBALL Central 3, Chaffee 1

Kelsey Holloway held Chaffee to one hit in Central's regular-season finale at home.

Susie Edwards, Bethan Sweet and Holloway all had RBI hits in the sixth for Central (7-19). Holloway walked two and struck out one in the win.

"Kelsey did a great job on the mound tonight," Central coach Amy Blattel said.

Whitney Horrell allowed three hits, walked five and struck out one for Chaffee (8-6). Sarah Dooley had an RBI single.

Tyson Whiteside scored Central's last three goals and assisted on another in a home victory.

Trenton Beckham scored the first goal for Central (12-1), assisted by Lance Altenthal, and Jessie Pyeatte scored the second with an assist by Whiteside. After Poplar Bluff cut the score to 2-1, Whiteside scored an unassisted goal just before the half. He added two in the second half on assists by Asad Malik and Sam Bornstein.

JV -- Central won 4-0.

Notre Dame 3, Jackson 0

Frankie Ellis assisted on two goals in the first half in Notre Dame's home win.

Jason Delgado and Ty Williams scored in the opening half, and Andrew Bertrand added a second-half goal. Tyler LeGrand had the other assist.

Nathan Kolda picked up the shutout for Notre Dame (11-2-1).

JV -- Notre Dame won 4-0.

CROSS COUNTRY

Anna-Jonesboro Invitational

The Central boys cross country team placed first and the girls were second in a field with nine Illinois schools at the Anna-Jonesboro Invitational. All runners for both teams finished in the top 20, led by Veronica Schabbing's third-place finish among girls and Dan Austin's sixth-place showing in the boys race.
