Jackson softball blanks Sikeston

Hannah Thompson kept Sikeston's offense in check, and Jackson's softball team took advantage of an error and a walk to earn the win Monday.

Thompson allowed no runs on eight hits, struck out four batters and walked one in the 2-0 win.

Thompson led off the scoring for the Indians (5-8) in the second inning after reaching on a single. She came in to score when Jessica Jones hit a line drive to the right fielder, who committed an error allowing Thompson to score.

In the third inning, Ashley Cook walked then stole second before Tory Smith drove her in with a single.

"We played a lot better," Jackson coach Amanda Forester said. "I still think we're coming around and I'm looking forward to the next couple of weeks. We keep improving."

Wendi Zickfield led the Tigers with 19 kills, eight digs and seven aces as they improved to 6-11-2.

Taylor Kirn tallied 15 digs, eight assists and five kills, while Angela Morton added 20 assists in the win.

Nikki Moll had 25 assists to lead the Blue Jays (4-8) past the Panthers (8-7-1).

Lauren Meyer had two blocks and seven kills, while Emily Ruch tallied four kills and four digs for Oak Ridge.

Courtney Brune put down eight kills for the Panthers.

The Cardinals won the first game but couldn't maintain the momentum.

Lauren Johnson paced Woodland with 10 kills, while Kaitlin McCormick added eight. Becky Brannon finished with 23 assists.

Josh Hadler recorded eight saves to help the Pirates keep their perfect record intact.

Perryville (7-0) got its lone goal from Wade Lawrence, with Alex Robinson earning the assist.

Andrew Etzold tallied four goals to lead the Crusaders to victory.

Garrett Fritsche, Brent Rodewald, Bryant Steffens and Shawn Hadler all added one goal.

Ross Gage finished with three assists to help Saxony Lutheran improve to 8-2.
