The Jackson Post 158 Senior American Legion baseball team remained perfect in District 14 play Friday night.

Jackson swept a lopsided doubleheader from visiting Scott County at Legion Field, 11-0 in the district opener and 12-0 in the non-district nightcap. Both games went just five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Jackson also beat visiting Steeleville, Ill., 8-4 on Saturday at Herzog Stadium.

Post 158 is 17-2 overall and 4-0 in district play.

Collin Herzog pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout in Friday's opener. He struck out seven.

Jackson had 10 hits, led by Cody Heisserer and Chase Simmons with two each. Heisserer and Steven Porzelt both homered. Heisserer drove in five runs. Porzelt and Trent Wills added three RBIs apiece.

Avery Whiteside fired a complete-game two-hit shutout in Friday's nightcap. He struck out eight.

Post 158 had eight hits, led by Ryan O'Rear, Hayden Clark and Jordan Hadden with two apiece. Clark and Hadden each had three RBIs. Laban Petzoldt added two RBIs.

Jackson played flawless defense in the doubleheader, not committing an error.

Joe Elfrink also fired a complete game in Saturday's seven-inning contest. He allowed five hits and struck out nine.

Jackson had 12 hits, led by Simmons with three. Wills and Petzoldt added two hits apiece. Clark homered.

Post 158 has two more games today, both at Grandview High School, against Daniel Boone at 1 p.m. and House Springs at 3 p.m.

Scott County falls

Scott County Senior Legion lost 8-2 to Steeleville, Ill., Saturday in Sikeston.

Scott County (3-9) had just two hits and gave up seven unearned runs. Dominic Hooper was the losing pitcher.
