The District 14 champion Jackson Post 158 Senior Legion baseball team opened up the Zone 4 tournament with a 9-6 victory over Ste. Genevieve Post 150 on Wednesday night at Wilson Rozier Park in Farmington, Missouri.

Jackson, which fell behind 3-0 in the bottom of the first, tied the game with three runs in the top of the fourth only to see Ste. Genevieve score three times in the bottom of the inning.

Jackson replied with two runs in the fifth before taking its first lead of the game in the top of the eighth.

Jon Schumer singled and Ryan Harvey doubled to put runners on second and third for Landon Mills, whose RBI groundout made it 6-6. An overthrow on a steal attempt later in the inning allowed the go-ahead run to score.

Harvey, who was 2 for 5, got his second hit in the ninth when he doubled home two insurance runs for Post 158. Schumer was the only other Jackson player to collect two hits.

Tyler Slinkard started and went four innings for Jackson. He allowed six runs, four of which were earned, on six hits. Haden Clark allowed just one hit and no runs in his two innings of relief, and Jarrett Newell got the win by pitching three scoreless innings to close out the victory.

Jackson will face Ballwin Post 611 at 5 p.m. today in a winner's bracket matchup. The winner will advance to play at 5 p.m. Friday while the loser will play at 8 p.m. Friday in an elimination game.

The championship game is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday with a winner-take-all game scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, if necessary. The champion will advance to the state tournament.
