To the Jackson football team, 6-4 looked a lot better than 5-5.
The Indians secured their second consecutive winning season Friday night by clicking in all phases for a 27-7 victory against Seckman.
Senior running back Joel Penrod rushed for three touchdowns, the Indians defense had four interceptions in a dominating performance and the special teams blocked a punt to set up a touchdown.
Jackson (6-4) picked up its first win in Class 5 District 1, while Seckman (1-9) fell to 0-3 in the district. The Jaguars finished with about 100 total yards and failed to score an offensive touchdown.
The night didn't get off to such a good start for the Indians, as Seckman's David Breeden returned an interception 21 yards for the game's first score on Jackson's first possession.
The Indians answered immediately with a touchdown drive capped by Penrod's 2-yard TD run. Grant Ressel's kick tied the score at 7-7.
Penrod added a 12-yard run for a score early in the second period. That followed John Gray's block of a Seckman punt on the final play of the first quarter that set up the Indians at Seckman's 20-yard line. Ressel's kick made it 14-7.
Jackson put in one more score in the final minute of the first half when Alex Austin passed 20 yards to Jordan Sneathen out of a field-goal formation. Jackson held a 20-7 lead at the half.
Penrod went over the 1,000-yard mark in the third period and then scored his third touchdown, finishing a drive that was set up by an interception for Sneathen.
The Pirates finished the season 0-10 with another close loss.
A week after losing to Kennett by one point in overtime, the Pirates surrendered only a 1-yard touchdown run by Alex Becker midway through the fourth quarter.
Perryville's Ryan Schilling completed 9 of 26 passes for 77 yards with Ryan Regelsperger making seven catches. Joe Krietler led the rushing attack with 22 yards.
Dexter closed at 7-3 and had already clinched the Class 3 District 1 championship.
