Shoes will be flying through the air this weekend in Jackson when the Knights of Columbus hosts that organization's state horseshoe event.

Ennis Hinkebein said 604 two-person teams are expected to compete in either the men's, women's or seniors division at the tournament, which will begin with opening ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Play is expected to continue through the early evening, then resume 9 a.m. Sunday and conclude in the middle of that afternoon.

"It will be an interesting, long, nice weekend," said Hinkebein, who had been a tournament director in the past but is merely assisting this weekend. "It takes a lot of people to help pull this thing off. A lot of work goes into it."
