JACKSON HOSTING JR. LEGION TOURNEY

Jackson will host the 1998 `A' American Legion District 14 Tournament starting tonight at the city park on the American Legion Field.

Six teams will be vying for the Jr. American Legion district title, with Cape SEMO Bank and Chaffee earning first-round byes in the double-elimination tourney. Cape is the No. 1 seed with a 16-4 district record. Chaffee enters with a 15-5 district mark.

Play begins tonight at 5 p.m., with fourth-seed Sikeston (10-10) meeting No. 5 Poplar Bluff (5-15). Following that game, No. 6 Jackson (3-17) faces No. 3 Dunklin County (11-9) at 7:30.

On Friday, Cape plays the winner of the Sikeston-Poplar Bluff game at 10 a.m. Chaffee gets its first action at 1 p.m. against the Jackson-Dunklin County winner.

Action continues through the weekend with the championship game scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. The district champion advances to the zone tournament in St. Louis.
