POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Jackson golfer Kyle Perry fired a 73 Monday to claim medalist at the 15-team Poplar Bluff Invitational at Ozark Ridge Golf Course. Perry's 3-over-par round, which nipped Poplar Bluff's Ben Brummitt by a stroke, helped Jackson to a second-place showing as the Indians finished just a shot behind Jonesboro, Ark., in the team competition. ...

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Jackson golfer Kyle Perry fired a 73 Monday to claim medalist at the 15-team Poplar Bluff Invitational at Ozark Ridge Golf Course.

Perry's 3-over-par round, which nipped Poplar Bluff's Ben Brummitt by a stroke, helped Jackson to a second-place showing as the Indians finished just a shot behind Jonesboro, Ark., in the team competition. Jonesboro's top four golfers combined for a 310 total. Jackson finished at 311, while Cape Central (331) placed fifth, Fredericktown (337) ninth and Notre Dame (361) 11th.

The field had to contend with wet, windy conditions.

"That was one of our lower scores down there as team," Jackson coach Ron Cook said. "I'm pretty proud of the guys."

GIRLS' SOCCER

Perryville 4, Poplar Bluff 0

PERRYVILLE, Mo.-- Britney Weibrecht scored two unassisted goals in a game that saw a whopping combined 38 shots on goal. Kate Lowry also netted a goal from a pass by Amber Crites, as did Jenna Schuessler off a feed from Ashley Riney.

Amanda Nuyt had 14 saves in the shutout and the Lady Pirates (4-0) forced Poplar Bluff into pulling its goalie with 13 minutes left in the game.

Chaffee 6, Scott City 4

CHAFFEE, Mo.-- Zach Horman got his third win of the season, despite a three-run rally and near comeback by Scott City (2-2) in the bottom of the seventh.

Brandon Davis and Derrick Uhrhan each had two RBIs for Chaffee (5-2) while Chase Eskew notched a save.

BOYS' TENNIS

Central 5, Poplar Bluff 0

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo.-- Central (4-0) remained undefeated with a rain-shortened victory.

The Tigers' JV also prevailed 5-0.

GIRLS' SWIMMING

Central 115, Notre Dame 70

Central (7-6) got individual wins from Terra Herzberger in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle to knock off its city rivals.

Notre Dame's Lindsay Kuper won both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.--From staff reports
