SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Jackson girls continued a perfect start to their soccer season Saturday by winning the gold division in the Kickapoo Shootout.

With a 3-0 victory over Oak Park in the championship game, Jackson completed the tournament 3-0 and improved to 5-0 on the season. The Indians have outscored their five opponents 22-0.

Molly Hartmann and Dana Wright scored first-half goals and Amanda King added an insurance goal in the second half. Whitney Werner posted her fifth shutout of the season.

Earlier in the day, Jackson advanced to the final with a 5-0 win over Visitation. Ashley Bartels netted two goals while Erin Hartmann, K.T. Biri and Wright each had one.

The Indians defeated Kickapoo 1-0 in the opening round Friday on a goal by Molly Hartmann.

Central, playing in a different eight-team division than Jackson, lost both its games Saturday by identical 2-0 scores, falling to eventual champion Ursuline Academy in the semifinals and to Liberty in the consolation match.

The Tigers (4-3), who had won their opening-round contest Friday, finished fourth.

Notre Dame Tournament

Notre Dame finished third in its own four-team tournament.

The Bulldogs (3-1) lost to Cor Jesu 2-1 in the first round, getting a goal from Sierra Ellis off an assist from Kristen Boos.

Notre Dame then defeated DuBourg 2-0. Emily Worley and Amanda Dirnberger scored goals while Dirnberger and Sara Berkbigler had assists. Katie Palmer recorded the shutout.

Nerinx Hall beat Cor Jesu 1-0 for the title.

In the JV division, Notre Dame was bombed by Cor Jesu 8-0 in the first round, then tied DuBourg 1-1 in the consolation game.

BASEBALL

North County 9, Central 6

BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- Central (3-4) committed four errors, which resulted in five unearned runs for North County (5-1).

John Thies was the losing pitcher. In three innings, he allowed five hits and eight runs (four earned).

Central's JV (5-0) romped 10-0 behind the pitching of Jake Welch.

Jackson splits games

ANNA, Ill. -- Jackson (3-3) finished second in the four-team Anna-Jonesboro Tournament, beating Community Christian Academy of Paducah, Ky., 9-0 in the first round and then falling to the host squad 15-2 in five innings in the final.

Dusty Roberts was the winning pitcher against Community Christian, hurling a four-hitter, with six strikeouts and four walks. Brad Berry had two of Jackson's six hits and he drove in two runs.

Against powerful Anna-Jonesboro, Austin McDowell suffered the loss. The Indians had just three hits while the Wildcats had 14.
