The Jackson 12-year-old Cal Ripken team dropped its first game of pool play at the Cal Ripken World Series 3-0 on Saturday in Aberdeen, Md.

Jackson managed just one hit off Bronx, N.Y. starter Angel Zapata in a 3-0 loss. Clayton Baker took the loss for Jackson, yielding three runs on seven hits.

Bronx scored two in the third and one in the fifth.

Bobby Clark had Jackson's lone hit.

Jackson next plays at 8 p.m. Monday against West Raleigh, N.C.

Heartland loses again

The Heartland Nationals 12-and-under girls fastpitch softball team was routed in its second game at the Babe Ruth World Series on Saturday in Cherry Hills, N.J.

Heartland fell 12-4 to Chesterton, Ind., to fall to 0-2 in pool play.

The score was tied 4-4 when Chesterton scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Amanda Willams had two of Heartland's five hits. Brooke Glastetter took the loss.
