ST. LOUIS -- Jackson High's wrestling team came away with two district champions, but did not encounter its usual success in the Class 4A, District 1 meet.
As a team, Jackson placed fourth with 107 points. As expected, Fox won with 186 points, followed by Oakville 177, Lindbergh, 146.5, Jackson, Northwest House springs 84, Cape Central 71, Poplar Bluff 58 and Mehlville 49.5.
For Jackson, Joe Wiseman repeated as district champion, winning the 130-pound class to improve to 31-2 on the season. At 215, Travis Reiminger remained undefeated, improving to 31-0.
Cape Central also boasted a district champion as Ben Keefe was victorious in the 135 Class.
Jackson advanced six wrestlers to next week's sectional meet at Parkway South while Cape advanced four.
Jackson usually advances seven to nine wrestlers to the state meet.
"This is probably, in 15 years of coaching, the toughest district I've ever seen - bar none," said Jackson coach Steve Wachter. "I lost four or five kids I didn't think I would."
Also advancing to sectional for Jackson are Lance Schlick (2nd, 103), Adam Wachter (4th, 112), Travis Turner (3rd, 140), Kent Langston (2nd, 189).
Advancing for Cape Central were Dustin Gross (3rd, 152), Matt Strickland (3rd, 189) and Craig Knoth (3rd, HWT).
