Down 3-0 in the seventh inning, Jackson High's softball team scored three times in the inning and once in the eighth to upset Northwest-House Springs 4-3 Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A, District 1 tournament at Arena Park.
Also Saturday, No. 6 Mehlville beat No. 3 Cape Central 2-1 to end the Lady Tigers' season at 14-8. No. 2 Seckman beat No. 7 Oakville 2-1.
No. 4 Jackson will play top-seeded Fox, undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the St. Louis area by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, at 4:30 Monday afternoon at Arena.
After Northwest, the third seed, scored three times in the fifth inning, Jackson tied it in the top of the seventh.
After Jessica Sander and Erin Sander both reached on errors, Jessica Sander scored on a throwing error and Erin Sander scored on Caroline Harper's ground out.
Freshman Amanda Bollinger doubled, and her courtesy runner, Carrie Myers, scored on Lindsay Hobeck's triple.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jackson's left fielder, Nicki Hobeck, threw a runner out at the plate to send the game into extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, Megan Kuntze led off with a triple and was later driven in by Hobeck.
Staci Seabaugh (8-0) went all eight innings and earned the win. She allowed two earned runs on eight hits, while striking out eight and walking none.
Kuntze and Hobeck each had two hits as Jackson (15-9) totaled eight.
Mehlville 2, Cape Central 1
Central led 1-0 in the seventh inning, but Mehlville scored twice with two outs in the seventh and won.
Central scored in the fourth. Freshman Aslie Voerg led off with a double and later scored on Erica McDonald's ground out.
Mehlville outhit Central 11 to 7, including four in the seventh.
Kathy Michel went the distance and took the loss.
Ashlie Voerg, Amber Voerg and McDonald each had two hits.
BOYS SOCCER
Notre Dame 4, Calloway Co. (Ky.) 0
Zach Miller had two goals and an assist as Notre Dame scored twice in the first half and twice in the second in its win at home against Calloway County Saturday.
Notre Dame moved to 10-2-2 as Colin Vandergraf earned the shutout.
In the first half, Jonathan LeGrand scored on a pass from Miller and Miller connected on a pass from Adam Obermiller.
Miller and Cory Elfrink each scored in the second half.
Notre Dame's JV won 3-0. Chris Dirnberger, Matt Bollinger and Michael Siebert each had goals as the Bulldogs improved to 7-1-1.
Belleville (Ill.) Althoff 3, Cape Central 0
BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- Cape Central fell to 3-11-2 with its loss Saturday.
Central's JV (1-4-2) tied Althoff 1-1. Kevin Cox scored on an assist by Matt Kennard.
