MAYFIELD, Ky. -- Jackson High's football team had little trouble keeping its undefeated record intact Friday night.
The Indians cleared their bench early as they built up a 28-0 halftime lead, then let the reserves play most of the second half as they cruised to a 34-7 victory over host Graves County.
Jackson improved to 4-0 while Graves County fell to 0-5.
Kyle Ward hauled in a 63-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Justin Keen in the first quarter and Keen booted the first of his four conversion kicks to get Jackson off to a good start.
Later in the opening period, Devree Flint scored on a 46-yard run and the Indians had a 14-0 lead.
The Indians got two more touchdowns in the second quarter, on a 60-yard run by Ward and a 3-yard run by Flint.
With most of their starters on the bench, the Indians scored only one more touchdown in the second half, that on a short run by Ryan Propst late in the third quarter.
Graves County did not even pick up a first down until early in the final period. The host squad finally scored a touchdown on that same drive on a short run with under seven minutes remaining.
Jackson will return to action next Saturday afternoon with a game at St. Louis-area small-school power Lutheran North.
