After a massive win over Francis Howell, the Jackson Indians are back to work as they develop a game plan for the Farmington Knights.
For Ryan Nesbitt and the Indians, the expectation is clear.
“Our only expectation is trying to get better as a football team,” Nesbitt said. “It’s kind of the same message week in and week out, but very few football teams get better every single week, and that’s our focus. Just truly trying to do the little things a bit better every single week.”
Nesbitt is making sure his team is prepared to face another raucous road crowd when the Indians hit the road to battle Farmington on Friday.
“Farmington is really disciplined,” Nesbitt said. “They’re a good football team. The option is always really tough for a defense. Our guys are not looking past anything. (Farmington) is going to be excited about playing us and competing. Going on the road in a tough environment will be good for us.”
Along with preparing for Farmington, the Indians are also balancing leaving last week’s win in the past, while also using it as a confidence builder.
“The goal is getting to 1-0 (every week),” Nesbitt said. “When you work this hard you have to enjoy the wins, but then you have to flush and get right back to business. Every program talks process, and for us, we try and live it. Whether it’s coaches on the weekends, to players and our preparation, we just do everything we can to get to 1-0.”
The Indians will play a pair of road games the next two weeks before playing four straight home games.
Nesbitt emphasizes the importance of these two road games (Farmington and Poplar Bluff) to his team.
“Our goal is to be the best football team we’re capable of being at the end of the season,” Nesbitt said. “For that to occur, it’s every step of the stepping stone along the way. All these games matter. We’re just working to be a better football team.”
Indians quarterback Adrian Fox is making sure his teammates approach every game the same.
“We just have to play every game the same,” Fox said. “No matter where we are.”
Kickoff between the Indians and Knights is slated for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Farmington High School.
