Jackson's Babe Ruth baseball team swept a doubleheader on the road at Chaffee on Tuesday.
Jackson won 9-6 and 16-1 in five innings. Overall, Jackson improved to 22-5 and 12-2 in district play.
Kyle Brown pitched all seven innings in the opener for Jackson. Brown allowed four hits, four earned runs and struck out six. Ryan Watkins and Sam Lincoln had three hits apiece. Travis Niswonger and Sam Sander had two hits apiece.
In the second game, Brandon Stearns improved his pitching record to 7-0 with a three-inning performance. Trevor Thompson pitched the final two innings.
Tyler Profilet led Jackson with three hits and added three RBIs. Aaron Green and Lincoln added three RBIs apiece.
American Legion District 14 junior tournament begins today
Cape Girardeau has the top seed for the American Legion District 14 junior tournament, which begins today at Chaffee.
First-year Legion program Scott County (Medicap) is the host team for the six-team, double-elimination tournament.
Scott County, which finished 1-9 in the district, is the No. 6 seed and plays 8 tonight against No. 3 Jackson (5-5). No. 4 Twin Rivers (5-5) and No. 5 Dunklin County (2-8) open the tournament at 5:30 p.m.
Top-seeded Cape (9-1) takes on the Twin Rivers-Dunklin County winner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday with Sikeston (8-2) and the Scott County-Jackson winner to follow at 8.
The tourney continues the same times Friday, then will whittle down to two teams Saturday with games at 1 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The championship round is Sunday with the first game at 1 and another game to follow if necessary.
