Illinois team keeps up winning ways

ST. LOUIS -- Julian Wright of Homewood-Flossmoor is getting a taste of what college may be like next year when he plays at Kansas.

The Vikings of Flossmoor, Ill., played last Saturday in the Marshall County HoopFest in Kentucky and then traveled Thursday to Missouri to play in the 24th annual Shop 'n Save/KMOX Shootout at Savvis Center. In the HoopFest, Flossmoor snapped a 41-game winning streak of Virginia's Oak Hill Academy. The Vikings won 68-67.

Flossmoor did not have a letdown as Wright, a Kansas recruit rated as the 10th-best prospect nationally by Rivals.com, led the 7-0 Vikings to a 55-41 victory over the Webster Groves (Mo.) Statesmen (2-1). Wright scored 16 points and added seven rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots.

Webster features Eric Jones, who has committed to Southeast Missouri State but hasn't signed.

In other boys games, Carbondale, Ill., outlasted Lynwood, Calif., 78-73 in overtime; Howell Central of O'Fallon, Mo., held off South Oak Cliff of Dallas 66-58; Bethalto, Ill., Civic Memorial topped Van-Far of Vandalia, Mo., 47-39; Glenbrook North of Northbrook, Ill., whipped Jennings (Mo.) 53-35; and Madison (Wis.) Memorial defeated Wildwood (Mo.) Lafayette 45-40.
