CHAFFEE, Mo. -- The second-seeded Sikeston Lady Bulldogs advanced to the championship round of the Chaffee Tournament with a 44-40 victory over third-seeded Scott City on Thursday at Chaffee High School.

The Lady Bulldogs overcame a five-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Sikeston led 14-8 after one quarter, but Scott City cut the lead to 21-18 by halftime and 29-28 by the start of the fourth quarter. The Lady Rams overtook Sikeston early in the fourth quarter but later relinquished the lead.

Loren Groves netted 14 points for Scott City while Jenny Pinkston added 10.

Sikeston meets top-seed Kelly Saturday at 4:30 p.m. for the tournament crown. Chaffee and Scott City will battle for third place at 3.

In the consolation semifinal, Delta won easily over Portageville 59-38.

Rebecca Below led a trio of players in double figures with 27 points. Sarah Cook scored 15, while Rebecca Cook had 12.

Delta will face Oran for fifth place on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Perryville 59New Madrid 55

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Jamie Amberger scored 18 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as the Lady Pirates improved to 3-2.

"She's really stepped up the last two games," said Perryville coach Vicki Lohmann.

Amanda Nuyt added 16 points, 13 of which came in the first half. Nuyt also sank three of her four 3-pointers in the opening 16 minutes.

Frederica Williams paced New Madrid with 19 points while Ashley Barnes added 14.

New Madrid took a 14-13 lead into the second quarter, but Perryville moved ahead 33-30 by halftime. The Lady Pirates extended their lead to 54-45 by the start of the fourth quarter.

Fredericktown 38St. Vincent 31

FREDICKTOWN, Mo. -- St. Vincent fell to .500 with a tight loss to Fredericktown.

Holding an 18-16 halftime lead, the Squaws (3-3) faltered in the second half. Fredericktown moved ahead 27-25 by the end of the third quarter and outscored St. Vincent 11-6 over the final eight minutes.

"We played hard, but couldn't put it together tonight," said St. Vincent coach Terry Wengert. "We had far too many turnovers."

Danielle Sutterer led the Squaws with 14 points.

Nickey Tucker paced Fredericktown with 13 points.

WRESTLING

Jackson 72, Windsor 4

JACKSON, Mo. -- The Jackson Indians defeated Windsor handily 72-4 in a dual meet at Jackson on Thursday.

Jackson recorded eight pins and received two forfeits in the 14 matches.

"Once again we wrestled well as a team," said Jackson coach Steve Wachter. "A lot of the matches were closer than the final score indicated."

Jackson's junior varsity won its match 54-30.

The Indians travel to Jefferson City for the Missouri Duals on Saturday.

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- After Cape Central's Alex Schieder opened the match with a pin in his 103-pound match, the rest of the night belonged to perennial power Ste. Genevieve.

The Dragons won the next 13 matches, 10 of which came by pins and two by forfeits.

Cape Central fell to 0-3 on the season.

Ste. Genevieve won the JV match 69-6.

Cape Central will return to action Dec. 15-16 when it plays host to the 16-team Tiger Classic.

Sikeston Tournament

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Third-seeded Poplar Bluff reached the championship game with a 63-41 victory over second-seeded Sikeston.

The Mules will face top-seeded New Madrid tonight at 8:30.

In Thursday's consolation semifinal, Charleston defeated Kennett 48-45.

MEADOW HEIGHTS JV TOURNAMENT

MEADOW HEIGHTS, Mo. -- The Meadow Heights junior varsity captured its tournament championship in thrilling fashion on Thursday night.

The Panthers went two overtimes to finally defeat St. Vincent 57-51.

Joseph Bell led the Panthers scoring with 28 points, while Matt Wengert led the Indians with 19.

Notre Dame beat Fredericktown 47-28 to take the third-place trophy.

Wayne Essner led the Bulldogs with 11 points.
