O'FALLON, Mo. -- Rebounding from a subpar performance Tuesday, Notre Dame -- despite playing much of the game shorthanded -- defeated Washington 3-2 at the St. Dominic Tournament at O'Fallon.

The win sends Notre Dame (14-6-1) into the consolation game today.

The Bulldogs asserted themselves early scoring at the 3-minute mark of the first half on a goal by Scott Wittenborn from an assist by Shane Kistner.

Later in the first half, Adam Prasanphanich, on a brilliant individual effort, dribbled through four defenders to feed Wittenborn for another goal to give Notre Dame a 2-0 advantage.

Towards the end of the first half adversity struck the Bulldogs. On a Washington free kick, a Notre Dame defender slipped on the muddy turf and his hand unintentionally stopped a shot headed towards the goal. But as the rules require, intentional or not, the player was red-carded and removed from the game. Notre Dame was forced to play the remainder of the contest short-handed.

As a result of the infraction, Washington was given a penalty kick which they converted to close the gap at 2-1.

With 10 minutes gone in the second half Notre Dame netted another score on a goal by Tyler Cuba on an assist from Matt Pobst to extend the Bulldog's lead to 3-1. The opposition got a late goal to bring the final score to 3-2.

"I was very pleased with the energy and effort of our team," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. "Even when we had to play a man down, we still controlled the action."
