The second-seeded Woodland girls basketball team pulled away in the third quarter and defeated No. 3 St. Pius X 59-48 to advance to the championship of the St. Paul Lutheran Christmas Tournament on Tuesday in Farmington, Missouri.
Krista Rhodes led the way for the Cardinals with 14 points. Heidi Green chipped in 12 points for Woodland (7-1) while Cheyenne Wells finished with 10 points. The Cardinals will face West County in the championship at 7:30 p.m. today.
Machela Cook paced the Lancers with 19 points, and Elle Russell contributed 16 points.

The fifth-seeded Pirates failed to pull off back-to-back upsets and lost to the top-seeded Bulldogs in a championship semifinal in Farmington, Missouri.
Kylie Bilek had 15 points to lead Perryville (4-7). The Pirates will face sixth-seeded St. Pius X in the third-place game at 6 p.m. today.
Courtney Callahan scored 15 points to lead West County while Alyssa Roever chipped in 10 points.

The third-seeded Pirates had a chance to go ahead late but missed a layup and dropped a decision in the quarterfinals against the sixth-seeded Raiders in Park Hills, Missouri.
Aaron Mueller and McGwire Bartley each had 15 points to lead Perryville (7-2) while Conner Stark finished with 12 points. The Pirates will take on No. 2 Festus in a fifth-place semifinal at 4:30 p.m. today.
Adam McGraw led North County with a game-high 26 points, and Hayden Sprenkel contributed 18 points.

The top-seeded Warriors went on a run midway through the final period and held on to defeat the No. 4 Indians in a semifinal in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.
Despite the loss, St. Vincent coach Bruce Valleroy was pleased with his team's defensive effort.
"I'm still proud of our kids. ... We did everything we could," Valleroy said. "I felt like we outplayed them for 20-30 minutes, but that's kind of been our thing."
The Indians were led by Trevor Leible, who had 16 points. Tyler Monier added 12 points for St. Vincent (3-6), and Jordan Rellergert contributed 11 points. The Indians will face third-seeded Zalma for third place at 6 p.m. today.
Connor Basler paced Valle with 19 points. Cole Wood had 16 points for the Warriors, and Coleman Keeley contributed 10 points.
