The top three seeds advanced to Thursday's semifinals in the Oran Invitational Tournament following first-round victories in boys basketball action on Monday.
Top-seeded Scott County Central trimmed eighth-seeded Chaffee 59-43 in the first game of the tournament. Tyus Banks had a game-high 19 points while Deantrell Beard added 17 and Deven Blackmon tossed in 15 points for Scott County Central (2-2). The Braves will face the winner of tonight's quarterfinal between fourth-seeded host Oran and fifth-seeded Bell City in Thursday's first semifinal scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Alec Bogenpohl scored 17 points and Landon Tenkhoff added 14 points to pace Chaffee (0-2), who will face the loser of the Oran-Bell City quarterfinal on Thursday at 5 p.m. in a consolation semifinal.
Second-seeded Malden thumped seventh-seeded Richland 73-36 in Monday's second quarterfinal game. Trevor Ison netted a game-high 18 points for the Green Wave (1-0), while Shamaudre Barber contributed 15 points and Ned Lee added 10 points.
Preston Tilley sank 16 points to pace Richland (0-1).
Malden will face third-seeded Advance in Thursday's final semifinal at 8 p.m. The Hornets survived a scare from sixth-seeded Kelly, scoring 31 points in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win after leading by just two points, 61-59, entering the period. Brian Whitson led Advance (1-0) with 33 points and Preston Wuebker tallied 22 points for the Hornets.
Skylar Lemons had 18 points and Isai Campos poured in 14 points to pace Kelly (0-1), which committed 31 fouls. The Hawks will face the Rebels in a consolation semifinal at 7:30 p.m. today.

Falia Hamilton netted 10 points and had five rebounds to pace the Tigers in their season-opening loss to the host Black Cats in the first round of pool play in the Fredericktown Invitational Tournament.
