The St. Vincent football team struggled to stop the run Friday.

The Indians surrendered 293 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries by Herculaneum's running back as the Black Cats rolled to a 48-14 victory.

Herculaneum cruised to a 28-0 lead at the intermission before St. Vincent's offense scored a pair of touchdowns after halftime.

"They were killing us with the run," St. Vincent coach Paul Sauer said. "We had third-and-long on a couple occasions and they'd break off 80-yard runs for touchdowns. It seems like any time we had them third-and-long, they'd break off a long run."

Junior Taylor Sauer hooked up with senior Ryan Boxdorfer for a 20-yard scoring pass, and junior Derek Joggerst added an 80-yard rushing touchdown for the Indians (1-3).

Sophomore Trent Elders started at quarterback for St. Vincent and went 5 of 11 for 50 yards with one interception, while Sauer completed 4 of 9 passes for 49 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Joggerst led the rushing attack with 10 carries for 114 yards and a score.

Boxdorfer was the Indians' leading receiver with four catches for 38 yards, while Adam Winkler hauled in three passes for 40 yards.

Joggerst caught one pass for 19 yards and Nathan Comte snared one for 2 yards.

The Indians return to action Friday when they host Festus St. Pius.
