Defending Class 2 state champion Scott City opened its 2010 volleyball season Tuesday night with a 25-7, 25-18 sweep of visiting Advance.
Two returning all-state players led the way for the Rams. Junior Katie Hogan, a first-team all-state honoree last season, led the way with 10 kills, three kill-blocks, eight digs and two aces. Mikah Simpson, who earned second team all-state last season, added five kills, 10 digs and six aces.
Sydney Short added four kills, six digs and 13 assists. Whitney Froman recorded four kill-blocks, while Katessa Simmons had three kills and Mallory Reddick had 10 digs.
JV -- Advance won 2-1.
The Bulldogs made short work of the visiting Mules.
Shannon Brennan had a big match for Notre Dame (6-1) with 10 assists, 10 digs, three kills and three aces.
Kate Edwards added six kills and Amy Wibbenmeyer recorded four kills in the win.
JV -- Notre Dame won 25-5, 25-12.
The Pirates continued their winning ways with a road victory.
Megan Moldenhauer recorded 17 assists to help Perryville continue the momentum it gained by winning Notre Dame's VolleyballFest on Saturday.
Natalie Bauwens contributed nine kills, while Marissa Erwin added seven kills and two blocks.
Shea Leible collected 12 digs to help the Pirates (7-0) stay undefeated.
JV -- Perryville won 25-19, 25-20.
Abby Landewee finished with nine kills, four blocks and seven digs to lead the Wildcats past the host Panthers.
Sydney Eeftink collected 23 assists in the win.
Whitney Welker put up four blocks and seven kills to pace Meadow Heights.
Alanna Steinbecker recorded 14 service points to help the Indians earn the home win.
Miranda Unterreiner put up 16 digs, while Chelsie Boxdorfer added eight digs and five kills to help St. Vincent improve to 1-1.
JV -- St. Vincent won 25-15, 25-18.
The Tigers grabbed the first game but couldn't manage another one in a road loss.
Chelsea Pannier pounded nine kills to go with seven digs and three blocks in the loss.
Tori Sheller finished with nine kills and seven digs, while Chelsey Brown recorded eight kills, six aces and four digs.
Megan Myers added 22 assists for the Tigers (5-2).
JV -- Dexter won 25-20, 25-20.
Kelsey McDowell collected 13 assists, five aces and six digs but it wasn't enough as the Indians fell at home.
Kylie Seyer added six kills and 12 digs for Jackson (4-2).
Eagle Ridge evened its record at 2-2 with a road sweep.
Lyndse Hanby had eight kills and five aces for the Eagles. Bethany Miget also had five aces, while Heather Wiseman had six assists.
JV -- Eagle Ridge won 25-6, 25-13.
Law Duncan scored four times to lead the Indians past the host Mules.
Jackson only led 1-0 at the intermission.
But the Indians struck twice in a span of eight minutes to start pulling away. First Duncan scored his second goal, this one coming on a header with Nick Rangel earning the assist.
Zack Taylor scored to make it 3-0 after stealing the ball from the Mules.
"He won the ball, took advantage and took his shot," Jackson coach Zack Walton said. "A lot of kids go ahead and dribble too much. He took his shot. The defender actually helped deflect it and it went into the goal."
Duncan added two goals in the final seven minutes to seal it.
"Today I think the ball just came to him," Walton said of Duncan. "He had the nice one rip there for sure and [then] got into the box when we crossed the ball. When you're getting yourself into the box, you'll get some opportunities."
Poplar Bluff coach Derek Reasons praised Duncan's abilities.
"We knew last year that he was a remarkable player and the boys knew his capabilities," Reasons said. "We did a good job with containment in the first half, I felt, until he broke loose. I think he's one of the top forwards in Southeast Missouri."
Austin Baker recorded the shutout for the Indians.
Aaron Margrabe scored two goals to help the Eagles post their first victory of the season.
Roy Yoon and Jordan Cliff both added one goal.
Josh Carbaugh contributed two assists for the Eagles (1-2).
Andrew Hileman collected six saves in the winning effort.
Kadie Orenstein hit a triple and went 3 for 4 while earning the win in the circle for the Tigers.
Lexi Smith had a double and went 4 for 4, while Destiny Whitney drove in a pair for Central (2-6).

Brooke Whitledge hit a triple and drove in two, while Katie Garner and Brittney Jones both collected a double and an RBI for Jackson (3-6).
Halle Woodfin went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Eagles.
Morgan Todt went seven innings but suffered the loss.

Oak Ridge rolled to the boys title with 29 points, well ahead of Poplar Bluff's 69.
Saxony Lutheran's girls were second with 43 points, behind Poplar Bluff's 31.
Oak Ridge swept the top three spots on the boys side with Corvin Schoen, Ethan Seyer and Caleb Elam.
Kristin Dippold of Saxony Lutheran won the girls title.
