The host Saxony Lutheran girls basketball team pulled out an overtime upset in its Class 3 District 3 opener Saturday.

The No. 5 seed Crusaders defeated No. 4 Kelly 60-59.

Natalie Mueller led Saxony Lutheran with 21 points, while Abby Hartmann added 12.

Kayla Hicks led all scorers with 30 points, while Kristen Powell netted 11 points in the loss.

No. 1 seed Scott City defeated No. 8 Jefferson 33-22 behind 17 points from junior Katie Hogan.

Saxony Lutheran will face Scott City in Monday's 6 p.m. semifinal.

Kyle Stroder led 11 Leopold scorers with 25 points. John Bohnsack added 17 points and Lance Seiler finished with 14.

No. 3 seed Zalma will face Leopold in the semifinals after beating No. 6 seed Marquand 82-33.

Stephen Simmers and Floris De Jongh both netted 19 points for the Bulldogs (17-7), while Austin Sitze had 18.

Justin Stotts added 15 points in the win.

Grant Gray and Ethan Barr both netted 16 points in the win, while Darren VanGennip added 12.

No. 3 Chaffee scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to beat No. 6 Ellington 68-57.

Alex Crowe and Alex Davie both scored 14 points to pace the Red Devils.

Jason Cicardi added 13 points, while Jordan Yahn had 10.

Advance and Chaffee will compete in Tuesday's 7:30 p.m. semifinal for a spot in the district title game.

Kris Cook and Gabe Bohnert both netted 12 points to lead the Crusaders.

Taylor Johnson and Nick Johnson added 11 points apiece, while Shawn Hadler netted 10 points in the win.

No. 3 seed Scott City opened a 21-point second-quarter lead and sailed past No. 6 seed Kelly 68-40.

Zach Cotner paced the Rams with 23 points, while Justin Modglin and Landon Robert had 11 points apiece.

Trey Drury and Sawyer Elfrink had nine points apiece for the Hawks.
