The Jackson girls and boys cross country teams earned a spot in the state sectional round after their finishes at the Class 4 District 1 meet.

The Jackson boys finished second in the team standings while the girls finished fourth. The top four teams advance to the sectional race Saturday at Parkway Central High School.

Gabe Underwood led Jackson with a third-place finish in the boys race with a time of 16 minutes, 46.19 seconds. Four other Jackson runners qualified for the sectional race with a top-30 individual finish. Jack Jeffers finished sixth, Calvin Lysell finish 10th, Matt Gibson finished 28th and Alex Phillips came in 30th.

Underwood, Jeffers and Lysell all earned all-district honors with their top 10 finishes.

Chelsea Drum finished fourth in the girls race with a time of 19:44.69. Tayler Winick and Carli Knott also had top 30 individual finishes with ninth and 24th place finishes, respectively.

"Some ran as expected, some were sick," Jackson coach Andrea Talley said. "If we run they way we can run, then we should be fine for the next rounds."

Central's Wright Logan and Riley Duncan qualified for the sectional meet with 18th and 22nd place finishes, respectively.

"Both of those guys had those goals before the season started," Central coach Mark Hahn said. "It's nice to achieve those goals."

Class 4 is the only class to use a sectional round between the district meet and the state meet. Class 1, 2 and 3 districts will be held Saturday to determine state qualifiers.
