MALDEN — The Senath-Hornersville volleyball team has been a worthy adversary for Portageville so far during the 2023 season.
On Thursday in the Bootheel Conference Tournament championship, the Lions pushed the Bulldogs yet again.
However, this time around, Portageville defeated Senath-Hornersville in four sets by scores of 25-15, 14-25, 25-18, 25-18.
This marked the third straight Bootheel tournament crown for the Bulldogs, who improved to 24-4-2 on the season. Meanwhile, Senath-Hornersville dropped to 13-12-2.
Portageville wraps up the regular season slate with matches at Holcomb (Monday) and Risco (Tuesday).
Senath-Hornersville will visit Delta C-7 in Deering on Monday, which will be a “Pink Out” game for breast cancer awareness. The first serve is set for 5 p.m.
Both Portageville and Senath-Hornersville could be on a collision course for a third match should both win out at the Class 2 District 1 Tournament — also scheduled for Malden. The district championship is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23.
Kennett D. Twin Rivers
The Kennett High School volleyball team earned its second straight win on Thursday, sweeping Twin Rivers by scores of 25-12, 25-23, 25-21.
This marked the Indians 10th win of the season. They will wrap up the regular season on Monday at juggernaut Cape Notre Dame Regional.
Match Cancelled
CARDWELL — Southland High School’s match versus Northeast Arkansas Christian Home Educators scheduled for Monday has been canceled.
Southland’s final regular-season match is set for Oct. 17 at Delta C-7 (Leering). The two teams will then square off again on Oct. 20 in the opening round of the Class 1 District 1 Tournament at South Pemiscot High School in Steele.
Girls Tennis
SPRINGFIELD — Kennett’s Christi Tejeda and the tandem of Claire Bean and Handley McAtee all won their opening matches at the Class 1 state individual tournament Friday afternoon.
