Notre Dame used an unassisted goal by Benjamin Parsons in the 70th minute to cap an unbeaten run in the Parkway Tournament on Saturday in St. Louis.

Parsons accounted for four of the Bulldogs' five goals in their three tournament games.

Parson's goal against Parkway West broke a scoreless deadlock and provided a 1-0 win for the Bulldogs, who completed the tournament with two wins and a tie.

Thomas Himmelberg made seven saves in recording the shutout.

Parsons scored both of Notre Dame's goals earlier in the day in a 2-1 victory over Parkway Central. Russel Beussink and Wyn Roberts each had an assist.

Parsons also scored in a 2-2 tie with Parkway South on Friday night. Roberts was credited with the second goal when a Parkway South player knocked it into his own net.

Notre Dame is 9-1-2 on the season.

Perryville 3, Anna-Jonesboro 1

Luke Schlichting scored two goals in the first half and assisted on a second-half tally as the Pirates won the Carbondale Tournament.

Iann Bergman scored the third goal for Perryville (10-1).

SOFTBALL

Jackson Invitational

Winning pitcher Alexis Dock belted a two-run home run as Kelly rallied to defeat Notre Dame 8-5 in the championship game of the Jackson Invitational.

Dock and Shanda Reed hit back-to-back home runs in a four-run fifth inning as the Hawks overcame a 4-3 deficit.

The win was the fourth of the day for the Hawks (16-3) in the 16-team, bracket-play tournament.

Kelly defeated Portageville 5-3 in the semifinals, beat Farmington 3-1 in the quarterfinals and opened with a 14-0 win over Neelyville. Dock also recorded the wins over Farmington, while Anna Hughes pitched the Hawks to victory against Portageville and Neelyville.

Notre Dame defeated host Jackson 14-6 in the semifinals after defeating Cor Jesu 2-1 in eight innings in the quarterfinals and Nerinx Hall 3-2 in the first round.

In the championship game, Dock struck out six, walked two and allowed five hits.

She also had a triple in going 2 for 4. Reed went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, Savannah Ashley went 3 for 3, while Kristi Brucker was 2 for 4 with an RBI double.

Brucker opened the scoring in the fifth with her double and Dock and Reed followed with their blasts.

It was the second title this season for Kelly (16-3), which also won the Notre Dame SoftballFest.

"They played four outstanding games today and really held their composure well against Notre Dame," Kelly coach Rhonda Ratledge said.

Portageville defeated Jackson 6-0 in the third-place game.

Gateway Matchup Tournament

Perryville won its play-in game in the 19-team Gateway Matchup on Saturday at Oakville High School in St. Louis County, but the Pirates dropped their next two matches.

The Pirates first rallied to defeat Lindbergh 19-25, 26-24, 25-20. Perryville then lost to Jefferson City Helias, 21-25, 19-25, in the quarterfinals. Perryville, the smallest school in the tournament, dropped its consolation match 24-26, 21-25 to Duchesne.

"Thirteen of the 19 teams were ranked in the top 10 in St. Louis in either the large schools or small schools," said Perryville coach David Mirly, also noting that every team in the field had a player at least 6 foot in height. "We were competitive in every single game."
