After falling to Westminster in the playoffs the past two seasons, the Notre Dame baseball team scored five runs in the first three innings to finally get past their Class 4 foes in a 5-1 victory on Saturday at Westminster High School.
"This is a huge win for us and our program to kind of get over the hump," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said. "They've ended our season the past two years and then you throw in another loss at their place last year during the regular season. Just to get that kind of mental lift is a huge deal for us today."
Dean Crippen and Christian Job each had RBI doubles for the Bulldogs, who improved to 6-3.
Adam Pope gave up one earned run in the third, but did not give up a hit for the remainder of the game. He struck out two and walked one in six complete innings.
"He kind of coasted from that point," Graviett said about Pope. "He didn't have big strikeout numbers, but he kept the ball down, put it in play and trusted his defense behind him. That's what it's going to take to beat teams like that. It's a full team effort."
