The Woodland baseball team defeated Oak Ridge 7-5 in the season opener for both teams on Friday afternoon.

Ben McCormick recorded the complete-game win for the host Cardinals. He struck out 18 batters and walked eight and also added a triple at the plate.

Senior Kelby Brown was tagged with the loss for Oak Ridge. Brown pitched 4 1/3 innings while giving up five and striking out five. He gave up six runs but only one was earned.

The Blue Jays committed four errors in the contest while Woodland did not commit any.

Landon Johnson was 3 for 4 for Woodland and was one of five Cardinals to record an RBI.

Jake LeGrand was 4 for 5 with a double and a run scored for Oak Ridge.

The Red Devils opened their season with a five-inning, run-rule win at home.

Cody Payne pitched four innings to pick up the win. He struck out eight and walked two while allowing one run. He was also 2 for 2 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.

Chaffee's Cole Hanna was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Devon Yahn was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Storm Estes, who pitched the final inning for the Red Devils, was 0 for 2 at the plate but had two walks and two RBIs.

Avery Whiteside pitched 6 2/3 innings for Jackson. He allowed just three hits while giving up six runs, four of which were earned. He struck out five and walked one.

Cameron Duke and Wyatt Eldridge each had a hit for Jackson.

Clayton Reynolds had two RBIs for the Tigers.
