Senior Shelby Kight belted a two-run homer in the first inning to help power Delta past Chaffee in a rain-shortened baseball game Wednesday.

The Bobcats struck for three in the first and made them stand up in a 3-1 five-inning road win.

Junior Chase Crowden struck out seven to earn the win.

Daniel Dooley struck out eight in a losing effort.

Senior Jill Rushin hurled the shot put 49 feet, 7 inches, the top throw in the country this year, according to Jackson coach Steve Wachter.

Rushin also grabbed first in the discus with a throw of 145-5.

The Jackson girls placed second with a score of 97.5 points.

The Indians walked away with six first-place finishes.

Chaffee's Luisa Boschan won the 1,600 to help the Red Devils girls place 11th.
