The Kelly football team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday with a 41-0 rout of the winless Central Panthers Home School Association in Arnold, Missouri.

Kelly (1-4) hosts Charleston in Week 6 action on Friday.

No additional information was provided.

FALL SOFTBALL

The Jackson Invitational Tournament that was supposed to have been held at the Shawnee Park Sports Complex was rained out but some teams made the trip to Kelso to compete.

Notre Dame improved to 17-1 following four victories over Kelly, Neelyville, Cape Central and Jackson. Jackson picked up three wins over Kelly, Neelyville and Cape Central.

GIRLS TENNIS

Mehlville 7, Jackson 2

Madison Mumma and Katie Black were the lone victors for the Indians in the singles division in the loss to the host Panthers in their first match of the Courtside Tournament played at Bernard Middle School in the suburban St. Louis area.

Jackson fell to 7-6 with the loss while Mehlville improved to 4-4. The Panthers upped their record to 5-4 following a 9-0 sweep of Poplar Bluff later in the tournament.

The Indians did not win a single match and were swept by the Tigers in their second match of the Courtside Tournament.

Jackson dropped to 7-7 on the season with the loss. Oakville also topped Poplar Bluff 9-0 prior to its match with Jackson to win the tournament. The Tigers improved their overall record to 10-4.

VOLLEYBALL

Perryville at Gateway Matchup

The Perryville volleyball team went 2-2 in bracket play of the Gateway Matchup Tournament at Oakville High School.

The Pirates finished last in their pool on Thursday and faced Eureka, who finished last in its pool, in the first round of the bracket tournament. The Wildcats swept the Pirates in straight sets (25-22, 25-15), which sent them to the consolation side of the bracket.

The Pirates quickly rebounded and rallied to defeat Parkway South 25-21, 25-9 before edging Parkway West 25-19, 10-25, 25-15. The Pirates then fell to Duchesne 19-25, 25-23, 19-25 in the consolation semifinal.

The Pirates went 2-4-2 in the entire tournament, which was primarily composed of St. Louis-area teams, including several state-ranked contenders.

"I was very pleased with how we played in the tournament," Perryville coach Dave Mirly said. "Every team was a larger school size than we were. If you look at our scores, we competed with everyone. ... It was a great tournament for us."

Lindbergh went on to defeat Duchesne 25-23, 15-25, 25-23 for the consolation title.

Villa Duchesne beat Cor Jesu Academy 25-17, 26-24 for the tournament championship.

Perryville (10-8-2) returns to the court Tuesday against host Jackson.

CROSS COUNTRY

Cape Central Invitational

The Jackson boys and girls cross country teams both brought home the championship in the 50th Annual Tiger Invitational at Cape Central High School.

Jackson Givens was the third runner who crossed the finish line with a time of 17 minutes, 30.6 seconds to help lead the Indians to the title.

Notre Dame's Rudy McClellan won the race with a time of 17:08.80 while teammate Benton Keran followed in second (17:30) as the Bulldogs placed second overall behind Jackson in the team standings.

On the girls' side, Chelsea Drum won the race with a time of 18:53.20 followed by teammate Carli Knott in second place with a time of 19:17. Notre Dame's Alaina Baumgart finished third as the Bulldogs placed second overall in the team standings.

Festus Bowles Invitational

St. Vincent's Levi Krauss fared the best among local runners to help lead the Indians to a fourth-place finish overall in the team standings at Saturday's Festus Bowles Invitational at West City Park in Festus, Missouri.

Krauss was the 13th runner who crossed the finish line with a time of 17 minutes, 53.13 seconds followed by teammate Isaac Baer. Festus senior Jacob Schweiss won the boys race with a time of 16:48.61 as the Tigers finished first in the team standings.

On the girls' side, Washington sophomore Mikayla Reed led the Blue Jays to the championship title with a time of 18:55.86.
