HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Kelly baseball team edges St. Vincent

Mitchell Proctor hit a double and drove in one run, as the Kelly baseball team rallied in the final inning to nip St. Vincent 7-6 on Tuesday in Perryville, Missouri.

Levi Alsup pitched 4 2/3 innings to get the win for Kelly (3-7). He gave up one unearned run on three hits, struck out three and walked one. Nathan Vicenzi added a double and got the save for Alsup, throwing the final 2 1/3 innings and allowing five earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and six walks.

Noah Niswonger took the loss on the mound in relief. He pitched one inning and gave up one unearned run on one hit with two strikeouts and no walks. Jordan Buchheit pitched the first six innings in which he allowed six runs (three earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and five walks for St. Vincent (5-2).

Austin Copeland got on base all four of his four times at bat, including two doubles and six RBIs, as the Red Devils only needed five innings to dispose of the Braves in the conference road romp.

Brennan Miller threw a complete game to get the win on the mound for Chaffee (7-2, 2-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference). He recorded five strikeouts and walked three.

Alec Bogenpohl went 3 for 3 and added three RBIs for the Red Devils.

Jeffery Porter pitched four innings to sustain the loss. He gave up seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Porter and Gavin Pobst each had a hit for Scott County Central (2-1, 0-1).

J.D. Jenkins hit a double and drove in three runs, as the Cardinals snapped a five-game losing streak with a six-inning road win over the Panthers.

Tyler Womack added a double and two RBIs for Woodland (2-6). Noah Barks also batted in two runs for the Cardinals.

Lane Baremore threw three innings to take the loss on the mound for Meadow Heights. He allowed eight runs (three earned) on eight hits. He struck out three and walked three. He also had one of the Panthers' three hits and one RBI.

Grace Sutton was the winning pitcher. She threw a complete game and gave up 10 earned runs with six strikeouts and two walks.

Winning pitcher Lexi Vandeven helped her own cause with two hits and three RBIs.

Patience Vandermierden added two triples among her three hits and finished with two RBIs, as did Shelby Schreckenberg.

Vandeven struck out eight batters and walked one, as the Wildcats improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

Marissa Jones netted the lone goal of the game on an assist from Maegan Walker as the Hawks were victorious over the Cougars in the second round of the Windsor Tournament in Imperial, Missouri.

Goalkeeper Tori Duenne had three saves in the shutout for Kelly (5-4).

Affton dropped to 1-5 with the loss.

Notre Dame 2, Carbondale (Ill.) 1

Megan Heisserer netted both goals on assists from Breanna Westrich, as the Bulldogs rebounded from a loss to Jackson a night earlier to clinch the road win over the Terriers across the river.

Goalkeeper Claire Landewee had eight saves for Notre Dame (4-1).

Carbondale fell to 4-3 with the loss.

Laurel Mueller scored the lone goal to get the win for the Crusaders over the Lancers on the road in Festus, Missouri.

St. Vincent 2, Hillsboro 1 (PKs)

Corin Carroll had the lone goal on an assist from Sara Kapp as the Indians downed the Hawks in penalty kicks to get the conference victory at home.

Goalkeeper Courtney Brewer had four saves at the end of regulation for St. Vincent (4-0, 1-0 JCAA Conference).

Hillsboro fell to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference with the loss. The Indians return to the Windsor Tournament at 6 p.m. today against the host Owls.

The Bearcats swept the singles and only dropped one doubles match to defeat the host Bulldogs for a second time this season.

Perryville Invitational

The Sikeston boys and Poplar Bluff girls were crowned champions of the Perryville Invitational.

The Bulldogs finished 16 points ahead of the host Pirates on the boys' side. The Pirates won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

On the girls' side, the Mules finished a distant 35 points ahead of Dexter for the title. Perryville's Lydia Cook finished first in the 800 run, and Notre Dame's Lindsey Powers won the pole vault event.
