The Jackson tennis team followed up its team district title by claiming two individual titles Thursday at the Class 2 District 1 tournament at the Southeast Missouri State tennis courts.

Jackson senior Jackie McNally upended top-seeded Emily Bartz of Oakville 6-1, 6-1 to win the singles title. It was the third sweep of the day for the second-seeded McNally, who also defeated Central's Josey Powell 6-1, 6-4 in the first round and Janie Vergano of Oakville 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals.

McNally improved to 21-3 in singles.

Jackson seniors Jenny Powell and Montana Adams, the top seed, won an all-Jackson final in doubles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over senior Katelyn Kuppart and junior Laina Marble, who were unseeded. It was the third straight district doubles title for Powell and Adams, who went 3-0 on the day to improve to 24-3.

The duo blanked Leech-Henson from Farmington before defeating Central's Faith Tegel and Ashley Westbrook in the semifinals 6-1, 6-0.

Kuppart and Marble did not drop a set in winning three matches that led to the final. They beat teams from Oakville and Farmington before upending Poplar Bluff's Sarah Crites and Victoria Bottorff, the No. 2 seed, in the semifinals 6-4, 6-1.

Central's Tegel and Westbrook placed third.

Jackson junior Lucy Kunz placed fourth in singles, going 2-2.

The top two finishers in both singles and doubles advance to sectional play next week.

Volleyball

Advance 25 25 25 Zalma 4 9 23

Liza Gray had eight kills and 12 aces while Grayson Miles added three kills and four assists as the Hornets thumped the Bulldogs in a best-of-five victory at home.

Aimie Simmers also had four kills and Allie Below had 11 assists to help the Hornets to their 20th win of the season.

Saxony Lutheran 25 25 Meadow Heights 14 19

Jordan Hoss had four digs and six kills, while Lauren Hecht added five digs and five kills to help the Crusaders win in two sets.

Natalie Mueller and Courtney Bergmann each contributed with five kills. Kirsti Polhman recorded 17 assists.

JV -- Saxony won 25-10.

Scott City 25 25 25 Woodland 23 21 23

Scott City senior Abbie Mcalister had 16 kills to help the Rams improve to 7-11-1.

Mcalister also was successful on 54 out of 57 passes, a 95 percent.

Leopold 25 16 25 Jackson 16 25 14

Caitlin Petty had 12 kills, 10 assists and seven aces as the Wildcats won at home.

Alli Woodfin had nine kills and six digs, while Sydney Eeftink had 14 assists and two digs. Denai Arnzen also contributed with five kills and 15 digs.

Melinna Craft had five kills, and Sara Thompson and six digs in the loss. Sarah Blanton and Chelsea Fowler each recorded three aces.

JV -- Jackson won 25-23, 24-26, 25-19.

SWIMMING

Chaminade 608, Notre Dame 569, Jackson 436, Central 307

Notre Dame claimed second place in the quad meet -- won by Chaminade -- at Central Pool.

Jackson finished third and Central was fourth.

Notre Dame senior Dustin Parsons finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 51.43 seconds and the 100 butterfly with a state-qualifying time of 54.30 seconds. Joe Bohr added a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.83) for the Bulldogs.

Jackson, which finished third, was led by senior Kristian Troxel and Brandon Price. Troxel won the 100 freestyle (51.05) and Price claimed the diving.

Logan Buchheit netted three goals and Matthew Parsons had two goals in the road victory.

Devin Ziegler, Ben Wedemeier, Caleb McMillan, Brock Hammers, Jake Powderly, Kenrick Niedbalski and Benjamin Parson each added one goal to help the Bulldogs improve to 13-3.
