A little confusion helped the Jackson softball team defeat Scott City on Wednesday.
Lauren Anderson took a ball and headed to first base thinking she'd coaxed a walk. Katie Garner and Brittany Jones headed for second and third under the impression the Indians had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning of a tied game.
Just one problem.
It only was ball three.
So Anderson was sent back to the batter's box, but Garner and Jones were allowed to keep the extra bases, which were ruled stolen bases.
Anderson hit a grounder to shortstop, which was bobbled briefly, but Garner was going on contact and easily scored the winning run to give the Indians the 6-5 victory.
Garner finished 2 for 4 and Brooke Whitledge drove in two runs for Jackson.
Shelby Rhymer finished with two RBIs for the Rams (11-7).
Becky Burger took the loss in a complete-game effort. She struck out three and walked three.
