The Jackson girls and Central boys finished second during Saturday's annual Jackson Invitational track and field meet.
Kirkwood's girls rolled to the title in the 16-team field, scoring 152.5 points. Jackson had 77 while Central was sixth with 59.
A much closer boys division saw Fox prevail with 119 points. Central scored 105 and Jackson was fourth with 84.
"We had a very good meet. Kirkwood's girls were really strong and so were the Fox boys," Jackson coach Steve Wachter said. "Central and us had a real good meet, a lot of very good individual performances."
Central's Asia Thomas tied for the outstanding runner award after breaking the meet record in the 400 meters with a time of 56.87 seconds.
Thomas, who set a state-meet record in winning the 400 title last year, also captured the 200 on Saturday while placing second in the 100.
Other local first-place finishers on the girls side were Central's Carlee Reeves (shot put), Jackson's Paden Wachter (discus) and Jackson's Tori Parry (3,200).
Central's Thomas McElmurry received the outstanding runner award for the boys after collecting gold in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
Jackson's Blake Smith had a big meet, breaking his own school record in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 8 1/2 inches.
Smith also won the 100 with a sizzling time of 10.44 seconds that ranks among the state's best of this year.
"That was a great time," Wachter said.
Central had four other boys champions: Billy Leighton (1,600), Zach Horrell (discus), Chris Martin (triple jump) and Matt Deisher (pole vault).
Jackson collected two other school records, including Brandon Wright's second-place 400 time of 49.37.
The Indians' 400 relay team of Smith, Trent Sizemore, Logan Wren and Wright was second with a school-record 43.25.
Notre Dame's Duncan Ross tied the school record in the pole vault with a second-place height of 14-6, which actually matched Deisher's winning mark.
