All the local high school events reported Tuesday to the Southeast Missourian.

A first-inning run was enough to knock the Chaffee Red Devils baseball team from the ranks of the unbeaten on Tuesday.

Visiting Greenville scored the game's lone run in its first at-bat and hung on for a 1-0 victory over Chaffee, ranked No. 1 in the most recent Class 2 poll by the High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Trey McDaniel was the winning pitcher. He threw a complete game four-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks.

Cody Payne suffered the loss for Chaffee (12-1). He pitched a complete game and gave up one earned run on four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Dakota Norden had a double for Greenville (8-5).

Chase Steffens had a double among his two hits, but the Crusaders could muster just four hits overall in a five-inning road loss.

Steffens took the loss on the mound, allowing five earned runs and eight hits in 2 1/3 innings.
