The Eagle Ridge Christian School volleyball team picked up two wins in pool play at the Missouri Christian Schools Activities Association (MCSAA) state tournament in Joplin, Mo., on Thursday.
Emily Jackson nailed five kills and served four aces while Hannah Petzoldt added four kills and one ace in the Eagles' 25-12, 25-11 win over Plaza Heights Christian Academy of Blue Springs, Mo.
Jackson also led with eight kills and four aces for Eagle Ridge (26-4) in its 25-14, 25-7 sweep of Community Christian Academy of Barnhart, Mo. Jessie Gartman added six kills for the Eagles.
Pool play concludes and bracket play begins today. The championship match is Saturday.
Notre Dame recorded its 30th win of the season as it won at home in three sets on Senior Night.
"It was an interesting game with a lot of back-and-forth plays and long rallies," Notre Dame coach Tara Stroup said about the third set.
Senior Taylor Feeney recorded 13 kills, while junior Lydia Goodson added nine kills to lead the Bulldogs (30-2-1). Seniors Ronnie Young and Kaitlin Welter each dished out 18 assists. Welter also had eight kills.
The win was extra special for senior defensive specialist Karsen Powers who broke the school's record for digs, which stood at 480. Powers needed 12 and finished with 15. Senior Annie Siebert contributed 11 digs and three aces for Notre Dame.
Leopold's Caitlin Petty led the Wildcats with 14 kills, five assists, five blocks and three digs. The junior all-state middle hitter and setter was out the majority of the first set due to a nosebleed. Her entrance back into the game for the second set helped spark the Wildcats' fuse.
"We came back during the second set and played well," Leopold coach Sandy Davis said. "Our passing was on, our hitting was on. ... Notre Dame is an outstanding team. They capitalized on our mistakes in the third set."
Bailee Cope had eight kills, five blocks and two digs for the Wildcats (27-5). Denai Arnzen added five kills and 11 digs while Sydney Eeftink had 16 assists and two aces.
Both teams begin district play Monday. The Bulldogs, seeded second, will host the Class 3 District 1 tournament and open at 5:30 p.m. against seventh-seeded Fredericktown (8-18-2). Leopold is seeded first in the Class 1 District 4 tournament, which will be held at Meadow Heights. The Wildcats earned a bye during the first round and will face the winner of No. 4 Oak Ridge and No. 5 Meadow Heights at 6:15 p.m.
JV -- Notre Dame won 25-12, 25-2.
Maddie Brune recorded seven kills as the host Crusaders wrapped up the regular season in a sweep of the Tigers (6-25).
Kirsti Pohlman and Raegan Wieser each had three kills for Saxony Lutheran (19-12-1). Pohlman also recorded eight assists in the win.
Breanna Mueller tallied five assists and three digs, Kelsi Siebert served three aces, and Miranda Brewer notched three digs for the Crusaders.
Saxony Lutheran hosts the Class 2 District 2 tournament, which begins Monday. The Crusaders are seeded third and will face No. 6 Scott City (2-25-1) at 5:30 p.m.
JV -- Central won 25-18, 19-25, 25-19.
Senior Hailey Mouser finished with 13 kills and 11 digs as the Dragons spoiled the Indians' Senior Night in three sets.
Senior Chelsea Fowler added nine kills for Jackson (10-18-3). McKinzie Scott dished out 14 assists for the Indians while Autumn Reid tallied seven aces and five kills.
"We've been improving a lot," Jackson coach Julie Brandmeyer said. "We seem to be doing a lot better job of executing and making big plays. Tonight we hung tight and competed the entire time. Even though we lost, we still competed and got better."
The Indians are seeded third in the Class 4 District 1 tournament, which they will host. They face sixth-seeded Sikeston (5-25-2) at 5:15 p.m. Monday.
JV -- De Soto won 25-22, 25-22.
Perryville 3, Windsor 0
Pablo Mattingly, Iann Bergman and Levi Lappe scored a goal apiece to lead the Pirates to victory at home over the Owls (6-13).
Luke Schlichting, Emmanuel Miranda and Emilio Mattingly each provided an assist for Perryville (21-3).
Goalkeeper Luke Dobbelare made two saves.
MICDS 114, Notre Dame 108, Vianney 88
Notre Dame's Zach Smith, Ethan Pobst and Jackson Voss each placed first in one event to help the Bulldogs to second place in a tri-meet at Mary Institute & St. Louis Country Day School (MICDS) in the suburban St. Louis area.
