High school roundup: Cox helps Scott City best Woodland in baseball

Braden Cox threw a complete game, struck out nine and held his opponents to six hits and one unearned run as the Scott City baseball team (7-10) defeated Woodland 6-1 at home.

Cox also helped his own cause with a double that drove in a run in the fourth.

Woodland's Devon Ritter went 3 for 4 for the Cardinals in the loss.

Devon Yahn and Storm Estes both went 2 for 2 to help the Red Devils (13-2) to a win at home on Wednesday.

Estes also got the win on the mound, striking out two batters in four innings of relief.

Josh Haggerty had four hits including two doubles in the Bulldogs (16-2) win over the Eagles at home.

Graham Ruopp picked up the win for Notre Dame, striking out four batters in six innings.

Roupp did not give up an earned run and held New Madrid to four hits.

Bruce Simmons picked up the win for the Bluejays (7-7) on the road.

Simmons struck out 12 and gave up five runs in five innings.

Simmons also had a double and went 2 for 5.

For the Crusaders, Jack Lake and Tyler Dowdy each had a double. Dowdy and Paris Johnson led all Saxony hitters with two hits.

Down 12-5 after four innings, the Crusaders scored five runs in the seventh but came up one run short of tying the game.
