Seventh-seeded Central picked up its first win of the season in upsetting second-seeded Notre Dame in the first round of the Noon Optimist Girls Soccer Tournament on Thursdat at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers used second-half goals by Calli House and Abby Schupert to defeat the Bulldogs 2-0.
House scored about midway through the second half on an assist by Schupert, who scored an unassisted insurance goal with about three minutes left.
Katie Kinder recorded the shutout in goal for the Tigers (1-2), who will face third-seeded Marion (Ill.) in a semifinal at 7 p.m. today.
Sixth-seeded St. Vincent almost pulled an upset over Marion in the first quarterfinal, which was son by the Wildcats on penalty kicks after the teams played to a 1-1 tie. Abby Buchheit scored the lone goal on an assist from Lauren Carron for the Indians, while goalkeeper Abby Rollet made 11 saves.
Top-seeded Jackson downed eighth-seeded Poplar Bluff 4-0 in another quarterfinal. Rachel Crites, Cassidi Tomsu and Rene Hamlett each had a goal for the Indians. Lauren Welker recorded one goal and one assist and Jordan Nelson added an assist.
Jackson (2-0) will face fourth-seeded Perryville in a semifinal at 8:30 p.m. today.
The Pirates defeated fifth-seeded Sikeston 1-0 on an unassisted goal from Marinna Mahathath to advance. Goalkeeper Miranda Stortz grabbed 10 saves for Perryville (2-0).
Notre Dame and St. Vincent will play in a consolation semifinal at 4 p.m. Sikeston (1-2) and Poplar Bluff (1-1) will square off at 5:30 p.m.
St. Vincent's Nick Cissell carded a 12-over-par 48 to earn the medalist honors as the Indians finished 16 strokes ahead of the Dragons to sink the win at the Perryville Country Club.
