Abby Shupert scored the lone goal on an assist from Amanda Webb to lead the Central girls soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the host Hawks in the opening round of pool play in the Hillsboro Invitational Tournament on Monday.
Goalkeeper Katie Kinder had six saves for Central (3-6).
The Tigers resume tournament play against Fredericktown (0-7) at 5:45 p.m. today.
Jordan Nelson and Rachel Crites scored two goals apiece to lead the Indians in the road rout of the Knightettes.
Cassidi Tomsu added two goals and had one assist for Jackson (7-0-1). Megan Puls, Madison Earnhardt and Grace Pehle each scored one goal for the Indians.
Lauren Welker dished out four assists while Nikki Sotak and Sarah Gammon had one assist apiece.
Goalkeepers Sarah Blanton and Samantha Schnicker split the shutout.
Farmington fell to 5-5 with the loss.

Dustin DeBeaux allowed seven hits in throwing a complete game as the Wildcats trounced the host Blue Jays in five innings.
DeBeaux recorded seven strikeouts and three walks.

Tyee Curry took the loss for Oak Ridge (1-7). He pitched four innings and gave up 11 earned runs on 12 hits. He struck out four and walked four.

Poplar Bluff's Nick Woolard carded a 3-under-par 68 to earn the medalist honors as the host Mules captured the championship of the 18-team Poplar Bluff Invitational at Westwood Hills Country Club.
The Mules finished with a 300 team total to finish 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Lafayette. Notre Dame placed third at 314, edging fourth-place Parkway South by one stroke. Notre Dame's Jack Litzelfelner shot a 70 to finish second in individual play.
Jackson, led by a 77 by Hunter Asher, finished sixth at 333.
Central placed eighth at 362. Kobe Franklin carded a 76 to lead the Tigers.
